LEADERSHIP & TEAM BUILDING
- One of the biggest things I reminded myself going into the position as Editor-in-Chief, was that the yearbook was not a reflection of me. The yearbook is always a reflection of the staff as a whole. This is why it is important to build the staff up and not let anyone fall behind.
As the Editor-in-Chief, my first priority is the wellness of my staff and keeping the classroom a positive environment. Team building is the best way to do this. Games and activities that include everyone, helps to develop connections, encourage teamwork, and build morale. It is not only important to run team building activities at the beginning of the year, when the staff is getting to know each other, but also throughout the year. Communication and friendship between the staff is important to be successful, and team building activities work to improve that.
This year, I ran activities during class time, and also outside of school. In our free time on the weekends, or after school, we went bowling, to the cider mill, out to eat, threw holiday parties, and other activities that brought a lot of laughter and built connections.
As Editor-in-Chief, it is also my responsibility to communicate with writers, editors, and photographers to make sure they know their assignments. I organize and make the yearbook ladder, assignment lists, and hand out assignments to the staff. I also go in front of the class to make announcements and tell the staff what they are to be working on each day.
